How To Achieve A Balanced Life

Personal Development

Girl meditating under water, text overlay read: how to achieve a balanced life

Okay, so I have a confession to make. There is no such thing as balance. People strive for balance and constantly feel defeated because what they are trying to reach is virtually unattainable.  Stop setting yourself up for failure. What you are really looking for is harmony which will give you a feeling of peace.

Strive for an orchestra, not an even scale

Very rarely in life will each part of your life have an equal balance of time and energy from one another.  That is unnatural so why do we strive for it? When you think about it an orchestra conducting a symphony has many different instruments with a wide range of involvement, works together to create harmony and beautiful music. And that my friend is the natural flow of life and project management.

Harmony comes with practice

In the beginning, things aren’t fine-tuned and the first time the music is played it feels a bit awkward.  The orchestra has to practice together often and finally, they start to work together and the more comfortable they get with the music, hitting the right notes on the right beat, and each other, they start to play in harmony.

The same principle applies to life and whatever goal you are working on. You’re gonna feel weird and out of place at first, but as you keep practicing and fine-tuning your daily activities, you will start to become in sync with your teammates, or customers and awesome things will start to happen.

Don’t compare someone else’s symphony to your own

Sometimes we look at an orchestra, or someone else’s life, and only see the finished product.  We start to compare and feel less than when we don’t see all of the work and practice that was done behind the scenes to create that performance.  When you see someone else doing great it doesn’t mean you’re less than, it just means they’ve just done more work, made more mistakes, have been more embarrassed, and practiced more than you.

When you approach life like an orchestra working towards harmony versus trying to balance an always uneven scale, things will start to shift for you. Just remember that practice makes awesome and you don’t have to compare your opus to someone else’s opus.

Did you find this useful?  Don’t keep it a secret. I would love it if you would share it with a friend, colleague or loved one.  It is the biggest compliment you can give me.
